Shantui in South Africa — 2026 range, pricing & dealer guide
By Marcus du Toit · Published 6 Jul 2026 · 7 min read

TL;DR — Shantui is the world's largest bulldozer manufacturer, part-owned by Komatsu, and sold in South Africa through CTEG in Jet Park. The full range — SD16 dozers, SE215 excavators, SL50W wheel loaders, SG21-3 motor graders and rollers — is stocked locally with 48-hour parts dispatch. Pricing sits at roughly 50–60% of Cat/Komatsu equivalents on the same Cummins driveline.
Shantui has quietly become the most-sold Chinese equipment brand in South Africa. It's not marketing — it's that the machines work, the parts are on the shelf, and the price gap versus Cat is impossible to ignore when the rental rate is the same.
Who is Shantui?
Shantui Construction Machinery Co. is based in Jining, Shandong province, China. It's the world's largest bulldozer manufacturer by volume, and Komatsu holds a significant equity stake — a lot of the dozer transmission and hydraulic technology is Komatsu-derived. The company has been building bulldozers for 40+ years and now spans the full earthmoving range.
The Shantui range sold in South Africa
- SD16 bulldozer (160hp) — my single bestselling machine
- SD22, SD32, SD52 — 220/320/520hp dozers for bulk earthworks and mining
- SE60, SE135, SE215, SE305, SE370 excavators (6–37 ton)
- SL30W, SL50W, SL60W wheel loaders (3–6 cube)
- SG21-3 motor grader (140hp)
- SR26M, SR20M single-drum vibratory rollers
Why Shantui wins the ROI argument
Same Cummins/Weichai engine. Same Kawasaki hydraulics. Same ZF transmission. Roughly half the sticker price. And the rental market pays the same rate per hour regardless of the badge on the door — see my rate comparison. The payback on a Shantui vs a Cat is roughly 3× faster on identical hours.
Parts and support
CTEG in Jet Park is the main SA parts holding for Shantui. Filters, blades, cutting edges, undercarriage components, hoses and hydraulic ram seals are on the floor. Standard nationwide dispatch is 48 hours; Cape Town, Durban and Nelspruit are next-day. Field service teams cover Gauteng, KZN, Western Cape and Mpumalanga.
Finance
All four big SA banks finance Shantui at prime-linked rates. 15–20% deposit, 48–60 month terms. SARS Section 12C accelerated depreciation applies (40/20/20/20% over 4 years).
